Here, Now, 2026
Here, Now, is a sculptural installation that opens up a dialogue on the body & built space, extending from a response to quirks of the architecture, to the evolving Metro construction site below.
The sight of a slow-moving basket on a crane outside the gallery window became the starting point for exploration, inviting a slippage between inside and outside. Inside, the work comments on the architecture from the experience of the subject, viewer.
Rather than a homily on architecture, the work focuses on moments of experience. It’s not the comprehensive whole of the space the viewer is asked to embrace as much as a disruption to the whole, causing a subliminal dissonance that infiltrates one’s awareness and bodily sensations.
Elements within the work stand as part of the whole, their reading garnered through relationships - of shape, form, material and colour (within a limited palette).
From this conceptual framework, Here, Now is an extension of a long held interest and exploration of a viewer’s habitation of space, with prompts to link it to its functional purpose and imagined possibilities.
